NORA

The New Wave of Flexible Home Experience

NOrA is a smart room divider that provides a flexible home experience. She helps to reduce privacy issues, decrease distractions, and improve the work-life balance. In contrast to standard room dividers, NOrA is dynamic and responds to the environment. You can move her over the linear track to any position, change her mode from a solid surface to a semi-transparent divider based on your wishes related to your current activity, or when necessary. She can be folded in and change the room back to one big area. Besides, the position and form you can use her to light up the room with ambient lighting, so the room's experience will be changed even more. For controlling all these functions, you can use the Nora panels as an interface. When you hover over a panel, you can activate this interface that exists out of other panels.

I did this project for my premaster in the DIGSIM squad. The DIGSIM squad focusses on IoT system and connectivity in the home. During this project I worked together with Jun, Jules and Dillon to create Nora. Early on we divided the roles. I was mostly responsible for the Technology & Realization area. Even though I needed to work on competences in all areas of expertise. For the Nora system I created the light system that worked behind the panels (video)and the connectivity to the other systems (video) in the IoT sandbox (projects of peers in the DIGSIM squad). During this project I realized that I really like to work in the T&R area of expertise.
